Downtown Lander, WY — 34 miles from the start
The race starts and ends in South Pass City, where there are very few lodging options. We recommend checking out the nearby towns of Lander (34 miles), Pinedale (105 miles) and Rock Springs (87 miles).
Campgrounds
Carissa Mine — South Pass City Historic Site
Racers and their families have the option to stay at several BLM and USFS campgrounds located near South Pass City. The link below has options for camping in the Wind Rivers and in the Northern Red Desert. Type in ‘South Pass City’ and the map will zoom to the nearest public campsites.
You can also take advantage of “dispersed” camping on Forest Service and BLM land. For folks who want to stay as close as possible to South Pass City, this is probably the best option.
